Cork is harvested from the Cork Oak tree, they’re prolific around Portugal. It needs to be at least 25 years old to harvest but it’s one of the few trees that regenerates it’s bark.  This means it can be re-harvested every 9 years 😊 which makes it an excellent choice for the environment, a carbon sink!  If you get it backed with organic cotton, it's probably one of the best leather alternatives out there!

The only negative to cork is often it’s touted as a totally eco friendly material, so be very careful that if you buy it that it's not backed with polyester or polyurethane.  Both of which are pretty terrible for the environment.
